Common Abode’s Hjem, which means “home” in Norwegian, is Hong Kong’s new Nordic café. It is located in Sheung Wan, a charming neighborhood. The eatery is a charming space that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s the ideal place to enjoy weekend brunches, catch ups over coffee or intimate dinners with your friends. “Hjem is my way to keep home close no matter where I am”, says Elin Fu, a Norwegian-raised Common Abode founder, shared her thoughts in a press release. “Food can be very personal. Taste can trigger certain memories and instigate new experiences. I wanted to share the same comfort I felt growing up in Nordic cuisine with my guests. I trace my roots through authentic Nordic delights with the hope that everyone can call Hjem their home.”
Jaakko Sorsa is the chef and has created a farm-totable menu with a variety of healthy Scandinavian dishes. Hjem’s signature dish is smorrebrod. Hjem is well-known for its selection of smorrebrod. The Arctic Prawn, Norwegian Smoked Trout, and Beef Pastrami were our choices ($128HKD, roughly $16 USD each). We love the light, summery flavors of fresh dill, fresh dill, and a squeezed lemon. The peeled prawns are the star of the dish, which are boiled to perfection. The Norwegian Smoked Trout is almost as delicious as smoked salmon and looks exactly the same. The sandwich is served with cucumber and mustard, fingerling potatoes, red onions, and topped with a cucumber and dill dressing. Pickled cucumber and fried onion add texture.
