H&M, a fast-fashion retailer, is launching an animal friendly fashion collection in November. The “Co-Exist Story” features womenswear as well as menswear. It also highlights alternative animal-derived fabrics and processes.

Ann-Sofie Johansson is H&M’s creative advisor. She stated in a statement that the “Co-Exist Story” collection exemplifies our ongoing commitment to H&M to explore innovative alternatives to animal-derived fabric while still offering our customers cutting-edge style. “H&M has enjoyed positive communication with PETA throughout the project. We are proud to support the important work PETA does every day.”

H&M explains that the womenswear and menswear collections feature extreme volumes, ’90s-inflected Partywear and functional outerwear. They are designed for “a modern City-dweller who flits among late-night parties or early-morning hikes.”

An oversized faux fur coat in cream in recycled polyester, a one shoulder knitted dress with dramatic fringed hem in Econyl blend, and vegan leather trousers with matching vest for women are key pieces. For men, you will find a graffiti-print nylon oversized anorak and puffer shorts.

Highlights in accessories include Yulex rubber fisherman’s boots, Flwrdwn puffer footwear, sunglasses in recycled plastic and animal print bags made from 100% recycled polyamide with Flwrdwn.

PETA-approved H&M collection featuring womenswear and menswear for animals, as well as kidswear and beauty products

Malin Dubois is senior designer at H&M. She said, “We designed this line for urbanites who love the social life of cities but also crave weekend walks in their waterproof rubber boots in the woods.”

“We are proud to have been able to combine two passions: fashion-forward, versatile design with more sustainable PETA approved alternatives to animal-derived material.”

There are Flwrdwn puffer coats and anoraks made from recycled nylon in bright colors for kids. T-shirts and loungewear also come with slogan patches to show support for PETA’s work.

The collection includes H&M’s first make-up products that have been certified vegan by The Vegan Society, two lipsticks, and an eyeliner set.

Laura Shields, PETA’s corporate responsibility manager, said that PETA has a lot to do with positive relationships with companies like H&M. We are working hard to eliminate animal-derived materials.

“We are thrilled to work with H&M to create a collection featuring amazing vegan designs that are kind to the environment and the animals that live there.”

H&M’s Innovation Stories initiative launched the third collection, ‘Co-Exist Stories’, in early 2021 to highlight more sustainable innovations, materials, and designs. The first theme collection, ‘Science Story’, featured cutting-edge sustainable materials. The second, ‘Colour Story’, focused on more sustainable ways to work with colour.

H&M’s ‘Co-Exist Story’ collection will be available in select stores worldwide and at hm.com starting November 4. Prices start at 9.99 to 199.99 Pounds / 12.99 to 249. Euros / 14.99 to 349 US Dollars.
