Baukjen sustainable womenswear and Isabella Oliver maternity labels, collectively known under the House of Baukjen are boycotting Black Friday in order to donate their profits to charity.

House of Baukjen, which will be hosting a four-day cyber shopping weekend from November 26 through 29, will stop aggressively discounting Black Friday and instead donate 100 per cent of its profits.

It selected two charities that reflect its core values of caring for the environment and people. The environmental charity World Land Trust works to protect, restore and restore critical habitats for wildlife. Strut Safe is a UK-based women’s safety charity that offers a free telephone service to assist women in getting home safely at night.

Baukjen explained how, as a slow-fashion, ethical fashion company, B-Corp., it wanted to “remain true to its ethos” and give back. It donates at minimum 10 percent annually to charity as a brand. There are also many charity collaborations and donation programs with Oxfam, Great Ormond Street, and NHS Charities Together.

Baukjen de Swaan Arons is the House of Baukjen’s creative director and cofounder. She stated in a statement that she believes House of Baukjen must remain true to its brand values. “It is wrong to encourage excessive consumption. It is against our values. We want to make a real difference and give back.”

“As a company, we want to do the best we can for people and the environment. We’ve partnered up with charities we care deeply about.”

House of Baukjen is now against Black Friday discounts for the second consecutive year. They want to encourage customers to shop more mindfully as part of their “buying less and purchasing better” philosophy. Last year the family-run fashion group supported .Centrepoint, The Trussell Trust, Papyrus, and The Prince’s Trust.

Emma Douglas, World Land Trust’s partnerships manager, said: “While we wait to see if world leaders keep their promises at COP26,” she added, “While we wait for them to fulfill those promises, we can all challenge our shopping habits and address an increasing throwaway culture.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the House Of Baukjen in championing our living planet. Spending this weekend on our Buy an Acre program will enable us to intensify the fight against global warming and preserve precious forests around the globe for the benefit all that depend on them.”
