Saks Fifth Avenue will be supporting the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance’s holiday campaign this year. The campaign began with Saks Fifth Avenue’s holiday window display, ten-story tall theatrical light show, and the unveiling of its New York flagship. This included a special appearance from Michelle Obama, former First Lady of America and founder of the Girls Opportunity Alliance. Also, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City performed.

Marc Metrick, Saks CEO, stated that the holiday season is a crucial time for Saks to make connections with customers in meaningful ways through memorable experiences and unique experiences. “This year, we proudly support the Girls Opportunity Alliance” and champion the program’s mission of empowering adolescent girls through education. We believe that supporting the Girls Opportunity Alliance is a great way to share the joy of the season with our customers through all channels of Saks Fifth Avenue.”

Girls Opportunity Alliance’s mission is to empower girls in their adolescence through education. This will allow them to reach their full potential, transform their families, communities and nations. Saks Fifth Avenue has donated a one-million dollar donation to the Obama Foundation in support for the Girls Opportunity Alliance. It also supports curated merchandise collections from multiple vendors, Saks New York flagship window displays, and Saks career shadowing opportunities for three girls from the Girls Opportunity Alliance community.

Michelle Obama released a statement saying that Saks made a generous donation in the spirit of holiday giving. She said: “This contribution to the Girls Opportunity Alliance will enable these girls to achieve their full potential. This is especially important given the ongoing threat to their education. It would be a setback for us all in the decades and years ahead. Saks’ wonderful gift is going to have a huge impact on the girls of the world. I am excited to see how this can support the work of Girls Opportunity Alliance around.”

Saks curated the multi-vendor merchandise line in support of Girls Opportunity Alliance. It includes products from all categories, including ready-to-wear for women and men, accessories, kids, home, beauty, and children’s by Bond No. 9, Brandon Blackwood and Christopher John Rogers, Fear of God, NEST New York, Oscar de la Renta, Phillip Lim, Posh Peanut, Sergio Hudson. The Obama Foundation will receive 100 percent of the net proceeds of this collection from online sales at Saks Fifth Avenue participating stores.

On display at Saks Fifth Avenue New York’s flagship on 49th Street is the holiday window installation that features the Girls Opportunity Alliance. It will be open through December 31st. Saks will feature special holiday content throughout the season featuring the merchandise collection as well as background information on the Girls Opportunity Alliance through its digital channels.
