Hublot, a premium watchmaker, has unveiled its second timepiece, the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow. It was created in collaboration with Takashi Murakami.

This new design is inspired by Murakami’s famous smiley flower artwork and repurposes characteristic features from the label’s Classic Fusion models. You can see the artwork in the center of the watch dial. It has 12 coloured petals that can rotate around the flower’s head. The effect is achieved using 487 stones representing the rainbow colours, including pink sapphires, rubies and amethysts.

Hublot’s HUB1214 calibre has been used by Nyon watchmakers to give wearers a 72-hour power reserve.

The company announced that the new design was made for contemporary art insiders and will be available in a limited edition of 100 pieces.

The release of this watch follows the launch of the All Black watch by the duo, which was a collector’s piece according to Hublot. Murakami’s original design featured his art in all-black, which was unusual considering the brightly coloured work that the Japanese artist often created.

Murakami stated that Hublot’s partnership has allowed her to express her creativity in a completely new medium. “The watchmaker’s technical skills have opened up new avenues for my creativity. This is the result: a new watch that reflects the rainbow colors.
