Givenchy was criticized at Paris Fashion Week for displaying a noose neck necklace during the presentation of its new collection. Fashion watchdog Diet Prada called the necklace out. It caused a similar controversy as Burberry’s noose hoody back in 2019.

Burberry was criticized for the design with the statement that “suicide is not fashionable”. Now Givenchy steps on the same rake.

Many Instagram users expressed their disbelief by writing: “How did it go through multiple people before this show?” Another commented: “It almost seems like they did this just for publicity. From design to approval, the ‘necklace had to pass through multiple channels. This is not a fashion statement that glorifies suicide.”

Marco Gobbetti, Burberry’s boss, was quick to apologize for the situation. He stated publicly that the brand was “deeply regrettable for the distress” and “it was insensitive. We made a mistake.” Givenchy has yet to respond.

Givenchy’s SS22 collection is a departure from Givenchy’s elegant simplicity and clean architectural lines. Matthew Willams, creative director of Givenchy’s SS22 collection, has replaced luxury with a data-driven hard streetwear ethos. This one is heavy on the garment details but hard to find substance and longevity.
