People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has announced that Billie Eilish was chosen as the 2021 Person of the year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Eilish was selected for her efforts in developing leather-free shoes and getting Oscar de la Renta fur-free. Joaquin Phoenix and Pope Francis were previous honorees.

Eilish, in collaboration with Nike, also promoted responsible and vegan materials. Eilish shared on Instagram that the shoes were made of 100% vegan leather and more than 20 percent recycled materials.

Her first perfume had no animal-derived ingredients. When Oscar de la Renta dressed her up for the Met ball, it was only because she knew that fur would be banned from future products that she agreed to be a partner.

As the Met Gala’s cochair, she made the dress vegan and silk-free.

Eilish is a vegan since she was 12 years old. She says, “I learned about both the dairy and meat industries…I can’t continue in my life not knowing what’s happening in the animal world and doing nothing about it.”

Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA, stated that Billie Eilish is making it a party for meaty, dairyy meals, as well as leather, fur, and silk. PETA is more happy than ever to recognize her for recognizing that vegan fashion and food are better for the animals and planet.
