New Balance, a footwear company based in Boston, has opened a new Methuen factory. The facility covers 80,000 square feet and was renovated for 20 million dollars. Sneaker production began earlier this year.
American craftsmanship is celebrated
New Balance’s new manufacturing site demonstrates its commitment to American manufacturing. It also reflects the company’s longstanding pride in American craftsmanship.
Joe Preston, President & CEO of New Balance, stated that manufacturing has been an integral part of the company’s culture.
Dave Wheeler, Chief Operating Officer at New Balance, stated that “We believe that our commitment to domestic production drives innovation, capitalizes upon consumer trends, and provides new markets opportunities.” “The opening NB Methuen greatly expands our own manufacturing capacity and supports our efforts to have a best in the class value chain.”
New Balance has five manufacturing plants in Maine and Massachusetts that employ approximately 1,000 workers. They prepare, cut, and mold components for athletic shoes and then sew, press and assemble them.
“The City of Methuen worked side-by-side with New Balance to realize this opportunity and we will continue our partnership efforts to make it viable for both the City of Methuen and New Balance as they move forward,” stated Neil Perry, Methuen Mayor.
New Balance has more than 7,000 employees around the world and reported global sales of 4.4 Billion dollars in 2021.
