A low-key catwalk presentation is not the best idea when there’s a music festival cum fashiontainment spectacle that will generate more buzz. Balmain celebrated its ten year anniversary as the creative director Olivier Rousteing, and returned to the runway for the first-time since last year.
There were many supermodels on the show, including Carla Bruni (France’s former first lady) and Naomi Campbell. Franz Ferdinand and Doja Cat also performed. Beyonce can be heard saying, “Fresh and audacious, empowering” over the megaphone.
The festival, which is held at La Seine Musicale in Paris, serves as a benefit for HIV charity RED while also celebrating fashion, dance and music.
The archive pieces at the conclusion of the collection showed the extent to which Rousteing has progressed in ten years and the contribution he has made the fashion industry. The show opened with sensual and revelatory tailoring. It was a celebration of the body, with a healthy dose hedonism. The customer will be able to find statement pieces in ruched Leather that will satisfy their desire for glamour. However, the layering was more sophisticated and easy than the high-octane, which can feel like Mad Max.
