Stylight, an online fashion search platform, has released the six trends in boots for the Autumn/Winter 2021-2022 seasons. This is according to 120 million annual shoppers. The platform selected the top styles to view and purchase using data from January 1 through May 31. It also compared it to last year. We identified the trends for next season.

Elegant footwear is back

Stylight is seeing a return to elegant, refined and polished designs like the kitten heel boot. It can be worn as an ankle boot or at the knee, and the subtle elegance it embodies is attractive to those who are ready to get dressed up. This style has been a hit on the platform with a 281 percent increase in clicks. The slouchy suede version is particularly popular. There have been a patent and suede version at Jimmy Choo. We also saw a timeless black version at Isabel Marant. Khaite has western-inspired, over-the-knee designs.

Boots with disco vibes are also a popular choice this autumn. These boots come in metallic and shiny colors like gold and silver, and can be used to infuse joy and good vibes after repeated lockdowns. These can be worn nightly, but they look great paired with neutrals in the day to make a bold statement. Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior all adopted the trend this season. Stylight has seen a 252 percent increase in interest in gold and silver boots compared to last.

Daring and playful styles are available

Consumers are expressing a desire to wear more fun pieces and have begun to love colourful boots in all styles. Although we’ve already seen a lot of bold colours and bright colors in the Spring/Summer 2022 collections and the Resort collection, the trend is still very much alive. The department of footwear is the most popular for autumn with bold colour palettes like yellow at Coach 1941, pink at Burberry and turquoise at Ermanno Scervino. Stylight saw a 27 percent rise in clicks for this category of boots.

Customers are becoming more drawn to second skin boots because of their bold style and bold attitude. These skin-tight, stretchy boots look like leggings. They can be worn with shorts, mini dresses, and skirts. This makes it easy to transition from warm days to cold. They are comfortable to wear every day and lengthen the legs. The 50 percent increase in clicks for this design at Stylight is a testament to that.

“Ugly” shoes will be here for a while

The ‘ugly shoes’ trend isn’t slowing down. They are still very popular in both customer searches and collections. Platform chunky boots saw a 394 percent increase in clicks on Stylight, while knee-high lace up boots searches increased by 328 percent. This trend is closely tied to a return of pop-punk fashion trends and a growing Y2K influence. This shoe style is a bold, daring alternative to combat boots and dad sneakers. There are many platforms at Dsquared2, Givenchy has a more minimalist style, and Moschino offers a colorful version.

Balenciaga’s “Puddle” rubber boots have brought back the coolness of rain boots, making them ankle- and knee-high. This style has seen clicks increase by 128 percent over last year. Celine contributed to this trend for Spring/Summer 2021 with a range of rubber rainboots. It’s now available everywhere, from Moncler and Roger Vivier – the ‘ugly style’ is discreetly surrounded in more elegant versions.
