Imagine a wild mix of pop culture inspirations, abstract brush strokes, and bright colours. Meet Michaela Yearwood Dan – she is about to become your favourite artist. Michaela Yearwood-Dan is a British contemporary artist who draws inspiration from traditional fine art and pop culture with colourful abstract fine arts. Her work draws inspiration from late-night food places, sex-positive femininity, and botanical influences. She adds her own twist to the traditional narrative.
The young artist’s distinctive brushstrokes made it to New York City after her first solo exhibition at London’s Tiwani Contemporary Gallery.
The title of her latest show, “Be Gentle with Me”, explores Yearwood Dan’s quest for selfhood through a series of abstractly romantic paintings. They challenge gender and racial norms.
She explores both the literal and metaphorical cues that her social and political stances as a queer, feminist, and black artist are throughout the collection.
